A HISTORY OF INNOVATION and GROWTH

– THE RAG PLACE officially launches in Chatsworth, California.

– ULTRABOUNCE® is developed by The Rag Place and is known all over the world. We heard that Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC, CBE said, “ULTRABOUNCE® where have you been all my life?”.  It is one of our most popular products; the first dual-use fabric: a water-resistant blackout and an amazing bounce with no hot spots.

– The Rag Place moves to a 16,500 sq. ft. warehouse in North Hollywood, and The Rag Place Rentals is launched.

– TRP sews over 300,000 yards of ULTRABOUNCE® in a concave shape to create an airport terminal for The Terminal.

– TRP launches the first color correction diffusion “all in one” fabric, GELFAB®. We manufacture a 100’ X 400’ Lite Grid/Half Blue GELFAB® for Day After Tomorrow, as featured in American Cinematography magazine, June 2004.

– TRP introduces Charcoal Vintage™ Grid, which quickly became a Robert Richardson, ASC favorite and used on Shutter Island, Eat, Pray Love, and Django.  This product is followed with Neutral Gray™ Grid, introduced in 2012.

– Optic Green™ Screen (think if a Digital Key Green and Chromakey Green had a baby) is developed TRP.  This new color quickly became a favorite.

– KNOCKOUT® Blue and Green Screens are developed by TRP.  These first and only black-out blue and green screens quickly became game-changers.

– MAGIC CLOTH® is introduced by The Rag Place and quickly became one of our most requested products.

– TRP partners with DOP Choice.

– The first US-manufactured SNAPGRID® is made by TRP.

– The Rag Place is featured in American Cinematographer magazine for our work on Hugo and Thor.

– The Rag Place shoots the Art of Diffusion, providing photometric data, and introduces “The Wrap Factor” — a quantitative comparison for selecting a diffusion material to effect a known amount of shadow gradation.

– The Rag Place Atlanta is launched and opens an East Coast location.

– The Rag Place moves to San Fernando, California, occupying a 45,000 sq. ft. warehouse.

– TRP develops IMAGESCREEN™.  These unique projection screens have worked on several projects, like the Foo Fighters “The Sky is a Neighborhood” music video.

– TRP partners with the Idea Vision boys, offering innovative, state of the art camera mounting equipment.

– TRP adds a second East Coast Location, with now over 100,000 sq. feet of operations to fill the demanding needs of Motion Picture Technical Fabrics.
